Olympia Police arrested a 34-year-old man from Tacoma early Tuesday in connection with a shooting in downtown Olympia over the weekend.
Police say he fired a gun, grazing the chest of his victim, during an altercation early Sunday morning.
According to police, the victim was kicked out of King Solomon’s Reef either because he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol or suffering from a mental health episode. Lt. Sam Costello said he then got into an altercation with a man on the street.
The victim reportedly lunged at the man, who pulled out a handgun and fired the weapon. The bullet grazed the victim’s chest, resulting in an injury that was not life-threatening, Costello said.

The man was arrested on suspicion of reckless endangerment. Costello said police struggled to have a coherent conversation with the victim and that without his account it would be difficult to charge the man with assault.
The suspect was expected to appear in court Tuesday.
