Monday is Columbus Day, which means federal offices, post offices and some banks will be closed.
City, county and state offices will be open, though licensing, recording and election services in the Thurston County Auditor’s Office will be closed for an employee training.
Schools in the Olympia, Tumwater and North Thurston districts will be open. The Evergreen State College and South Puget Sound Community College will both be open.
Timberland Regional Library branches also will be open.
The second Monday of October is typically observed as Columbus Day, though some places celebrate it as Indigenous Peoples Day, including Olympia.
A daylong Indigenous Peoples Day event kicks off at 10 a.m. on the Capitol Campus. This year’s theme is “Honoring our Women,” and women will address the crowd from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The indigenous dancers make their grand entry at 2 p.m.
